About This Scholarship

The ACS Scholars Program is a scholarship program provided by the American Chemical Society (ACS). The ACS Scholars Program aims to support underrepresented minority students who are pursuing degrees in the chemical sciences or related fields. The program offers renewable scholarships of up to $5,000 per academic year to undergraduate students studying chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, and other chemistry-related fields.  The program seeks to increase diversity and representation in the field of chemistry by empowering and supporting talented students from underrepresented backgrounds. It is designed to assist students throughout their undergraduate education and foster their involvement in the chemical sciences.

Eligibility Criteria For ACS Scholars Program

The eligibility criteria for the ACS Scholars Program may vary and are subject to change over time. However, as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, here are some general eligibility requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency: Applicants must be either U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • Underrepresented minority status: The program primarily targets underrepresented minority students, including African American, Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian students. Other underrepresented minority groups may also be considered.
  • Academic standing: All the applicants must be high school seniors, college freshmen, sophomores, or juniors who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in a chemical science or related field at an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • GPA requirement: Applicants are generally required to have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Financial need: The ACS Scholars Program is intended to support students with demonstrated financial need. Applicants may be required to provide financial information and documentation as part of the application process.
  • Career goals: Applicants should have a strong interest in pursuing a career in the chemical sciences or a related field and demonstrate their commitment to the field through activities, research experiences, or leadership roles.
