About This Scholarship

The Central Michigan University Leader Advancement Scholarship is a highly competitive, merit-based scholarship program for incoming freshmen who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential. The scholarship is awarded by the Leader Advancement Program (LAP), a leadership development program at Central Michigan University (CMU).

Recipients of the Leader Advancement Scholarship receive a variety of benefits, including:

  • Full tuition and fees for four years
  • A $2,000 annual stipend for leadership development activities, such as conferences, workshops, and study abroad programs
  • Access to exclusive leadership development opportunities, such as mentoring, community service projects, and networking events
  • Priority registration for classes
  • The opportunity to live in a leadership-themed residence hall with other LAP students

To apply for the Leader Advancement Scholarship, interested students must complete the CMU application for admission and the Leader Advancement Program application, which includes several short essays and a recommendation letter. The application deadline for the scholarship is typically in early December, and decisions are announced in March.
