About This Scholarship

Smothers’ classmates established the Daniel D. Smothers Memorial Scholarship, which is administered by the Saginaw Community Foundation, for the class of 1999’s 10-year reunion. The target was to generate $20,000 for the endowment, which would then give graduating Saginaw High seniors $1,000 scholarships.

The Daniel D. Smothers Memorial Scholarship is available to Saginaw residents who are graduating high school seniors from Saginaw High School and who have a minimum 2.5 GPA and financial need. Financial need, leadership, volunteerism, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular and academic activities are among the evaluation factors.

Eligibility Criteria For Daniel D. Smothers Memorial Scholarship

Here are some common factors considered for scholarships for financially needy people:

  • Financial Need: Scholarships for financially needy individuals typically require applicants to demonstrate financial need. This may involve providing information about your family’s income, assets, and expenses, as well as any extenuating circumstances that contribute to your financial need.
  • Income Limit: Some scholarships may have specific income limits or thresholds that applicants must meet to be considered financially needy. These limits can vary depending on the scholarship program and may take into account factors such as family size and geographic location.
  • FAFSA or Financial Aid Application: Many scholarships for financially needy individuals may require applicants to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a similar financial aid application. The information provided in these applications helps assess an individual’s financial need and eligibility for various forms of financial aid.
  • Academic Performance: While financial need is a primary consideration, some scholarships may also have minimum academic requirements, such as a specific grade point average (GPA) or standardized test scores. These criteria help ensure that recipients are committed to their education and demonstrate academic potential.
  • Personal Statement or Essay: Scholarship applications for financially needy individuals may include a personal statement or essay where you can share your financial circumstances, educational goals, and how receiving the scholarship would help you overcome financial barriers and achieve your aspirations.
