About This Scholarship

All Pitt medical students interested in paediatrics may apply for a $1000 prize, thanks to i4Kids and Dean Anantha Shekhar. We are particularly interested in assisting students who are first-generation college graduates in order to support more diversity in paediatric medicine and recognise the outstanding accomplishments of trailblazing students. Applicants who are not first-generation but have shown financial necessity are still encouraged to submit an application.

Candidates must be Pitt medical students interested in paediatrics who can also demonstrate a need for financial assistance. First-generation college students are given preference, while those who are not first-generation who have shown financial need are still encouraged to apply. The increased financial strain of the USMLE exam and test preparation fees is what this prize is meant to relieve.

Eligibility Criteria For i4Kids Medical Student Scholarship

Here are some general factors that are often considered:

  • Field of Study: Pediatric medicine field scholarships are typically intended for students pursuing studies in pediatric medicine, pediatrics, or related disciplines.
  • Academic Performance: Many scholarships in the pediatric medicine field consider academic performance as an important criterion. Applicants may be required to have a minimum GPA or meet certain academic standards. Strong performance in science and medical-related coursework can be advantageous.
  • Research or Clinical Experience: Scholarships in pediatric medicine may value candidates with prior research or clinical experience in the field. This can include involvement in research projects, clinical internships, volunteer work at pediatric hospitals or clinics, or other relevant experiences.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Strong letters of recommendation from professors, mentors, or professionals in the field can be beneficial. These letters should highlight the applicant’s dedication, passion, and potential in pediatric medicine.
  • Personal Statement: Some scholarships may require applicants to submit a personal statement or essay explaining their interest in pediatric medicine, their career goals, and how the scholarship will contribute to their academic and professional development. This essay allows applicants to showcase their commitment, compassion, and understanding of the field.
  • Community Involvement: Scholarships in pediatric medicine may also consider an applicant’s involvement in community service, particularly if it relates to children’s health or pediatric care. Participation in volunteer programs, community outreach initiatives, or leadership roles in organizations focused on child health can strengthen an application.
  • Specific Criteria: Depending on the scholarship, there may be additional criteria specific to the nature of the funding. For example, scholarships may focus on specific pediatric subspecialties, research areas, or underserved populations.
