About This Scholarship

The Mississippi Higher Education Legislative Plan for Needy Students (HELP) is a state-funded scholarship program designed to provide financial assistance to Mississippi residents who demonstrate financial need and who want to pursue higher education in Mississippi. The scholarship provides full tuition and required fees at an eligible Mississippi institution for up to eight semesters (or 10 semesters for certain programs). They must also fulfill a service obligation by working in Mississippi for at least two years after graduation in a field related to their degree.

The HELP Scholarship is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible students who submit a completed application and meet all eligibility criteria.

  • Financial need: Applicants must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
  • Academic achievement: Applicants must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or have a minimum composite ACT score of 20.
  • Good standing: Applicants must be in good standing with the college or university they are attending, and must not be in default on any federal or state student loans.
