About This Scholarship

The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship Program is a scholarship program offered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program is designed to provide financial assistance to medical, dental, and mental health students who agree to work in underserved communities after graduation.

The NHSC Scholarship Program covers tuition, fees, and other educational expenses, as well as providing a monthly stipend to cover living expenses. In exchange for this financial support, scholarship recipients are required to commit to working for at least two years in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) upon completion of their training.

The NHSC Scholarship Program is intended to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in underserved communities across the United States. By providing financial assistance to students who commit to serving these communities, the program aims to improve access to healthcare for those who need it most.

Eligibility Criteria For NHSC Scholarship Program

To be eligible for the NHSC Scholarship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a fully accredited school in the U.S. pursuing a degree in a primary care healthcare discipline (including medicine, dentistry, nursing, nurse practitioner, certified nurse-midwife, and physician assistant).
  • Be eligible to receive federal student aid.
  • Have no past or present obligation to serve in the U.S. military.
  • Be willing to commit to a service obligation of at least two years in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) after graduation.
  • Be committed to providing primary care services to underserved populations.
  • Have good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0.

The NHSC Scholarship Program is a highly competitive program, and meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection for the scholarship. Applicants are evaluated based on their academic record, commitment to serving underserved populations, and potential for success in a primary care healthcare discipline.
