About This Scholarship

A trip to New York City, Portland, Oregon, or Minneapolis, Minnesota, where they will take part in career-building activities, will be provided to the scholarship winners. This includes a welcome supper with a keynote speaker, three to four one-day workshops on professional development, and a reception to honour scholarship recipients and donors. Students will have the chance to network with professionals from the field and learn about the worlds of marketing, public relations, and advertising during these events. TLF accepts applications from graduate students, including Ph.D. candidates, as well as undergraduate students (current freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and non-graduating seniors only).

The following requirements must be met in order to qualify for the TLF Scholarships: the candidate must be an African American/Black, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, or Native American/American Indian; and the applicant must be a full-time student.

Eligibility Criteria For TLF Scholarships

Here are some common factors that are often considered:

  • Field of Study: Scholarships for Ph.D. students may be specific to certain fields of study or academic disciplines. They may prioritize applicants pursuing Ph.D. degrees in areas such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), social sciences, humanities, or interdisciplinary studies.
  • Academic Excellence: Ph.D. scholarships typically require applicants to demonstrate outstanding academic performance. This can include maintaining a high GPA, having a strong undergraduate or master’s degree, or receiving honors and awards related to their field of study.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Scholarships often require applicants to provide letters of recommendation from professors or academic professionals who can speak to the applicant’s research abilities, academic potential, and suitability for pursuing a Ph.D. degree.
  • Personal Statement or Statement of Purpose: Many Ph.D. scholarships require applicants to submit a personal statement or statement of purpose. This allows applicants to articulate their motivation for pursuing a Ph.D., their research interests, and how the scholarship would support their academic and career goals.
