The GWCF National Scholarship Competition is an annual scholarship program sponsored by the Great Watershed Conservation Foundation (GWCF). The program is open to high school seniors and college students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who plan to pursue a career related to conservation.
To apply for the scholarship, students must complete an online application that includes an essay, a personal statement, and two letters of recommendation. The essay should be no more than 750 words and should discuss the importance of conservation and the student’s plans for a career in this field. The personal statement should be no more than 250 words and should provide additional information about the student’s academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and career goals.
The scholarship award is $1,000 and can be used for tuition, fees, books, or other educational expenses. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is typically in late spring or early summer.
The GWCF is a non-profit organization that works to protect and restore the watersheds of the Great Lakes region. In addition to the scholarship program, the GWCF also sponsors a variety of conservation projects, research initiatives, and educational programs.
