Juniors in college who are interested in pursuing a career in public service and intend to continue their education beyond the undergraduate level are eligible to apply for this award. The Truman Foundation, an organization devoted to fostering the future of government service leadership in the United States, is responsible for providing funding for the scholarship. Many individuals who have been awarded scholarships have gone on to hold public office, work as prosecutors and public defenders, serve as heads of non-profit organizations, and teach at educational institutions. The charity gives out about sixty academic scholarships each year.
