About This Scholarship

The NLM Associate Fellowship Program is a one-year fellowship program offered by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) that is designed to provide recent graduates in library science and related fields with an opportunity to gain practical experience in health sciences information services and to prepare for careers in health sciences librarianship and related fields.

The program is open to U.S. citizens who have completed a master’s degree in library science or a related field from an accredited institution. The program provides a stipend of $61,512 plus additional benefits, including health insurance and travel allowances.

During the fellowship year, participants work on projects related to NLM programs and services, such as the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, PubMed, and MedlinePlus. Fellows also have the opportunity to participate in lectures, seminars, and other educational activities offered by the NLM.

The program is highly competitive, with a limited number of positions available each year. Applicants are evaluated based on their academic record, professional experience, and career goals. The application process typically opens in November and closes in late January or early February.a

The NLM Associate Fellowship Program is a valuable opportunity for recent graduates who are interested in health sciences librarianship and related fields to gain hands-on experience and make connections in the field. It is an excellent way to prepare for a career in health sciences information services and to contribute to the important work of the NLM.
