About This Scholarship

The UNCF (United Negro College Fund) General Scholarship is a program that provides financial assistance to students who are attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) or other accredited institutions of higher education.  The UNCF General Scholarship program is designed to support students who are pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in any field of study. The scholarship is awarded based on a variety of factors, including academic achievement, financial need, community involvement, leadership potential, and other criteria determined by the individual scholarship provider.

The UNCF General Scholarship program is just one of the many programs offered by the UNCF, which is the largest provider of scholarships and other educational support to African American students in the United States. Since its founding in 1944, the UNCF has helped more than 500,000 students earn college degrees, and its scholarship programs have provided more than $5 billion in financial assistance.

Eligibility Criteria For UNCF General Scholarship

The UNCF General Scholarship is a program that provides financial assistance to students who are attending or planning to attend a UNCF member college or university. To be eligible for the UNCF General Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or other financial aid application.
  • Must be enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in a UNCF member college or university.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in any major or field of study.
  • Must be able to provide an official transcript of their academic record, as well as any other required documents or materials requested by UNCF.
  • May be required to submit an essay, personal statement, or other written materials as part of the application process.
